"His dedication to his students and the school will be greatly missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.”
And there were more than 300 reactions on Facebook:
Alejandra Mulhern wrote, in part: "Not only a wonderful teacher but a wonderful person. He was my daughter's (Micheala) teacher last year and he was someone my daughter could talk to. Just Friday, he told my daughter they needed to catch up. . . ."
And Stacy Lane wrote: "Doug loved all of his students. He was proud of the people they were becoming and watching them grow. He spoke of them often every day in fact. I had the beauty of witnessing him with his kids at prom. I love him very much. And I know he loved all of you too."
